Before you apply, check you meet all the eligibility conditions.
We are looking for one person from each of the below groups. These groups are based on working locations.

If you aren’t sure which group you are in, please select “other” in the application form and provide us with the details of your working location.

Eligibility checklist

Before you apply, please read through this checklist to check you meet all the requirements to become a Trustee. You will be asked to confirm that you meet all the requirements when filling out the online application form.

If you cannot meet all the points below, you cannot stand as a candidate.

  • I am an active member of the Unilever UK Pension Fund: This means you are currently working for Unilever and actively saving into a pension with the UUKPF, this could be in the DB Career average Plan, the DC Investing Plan, or the Retirement Savings Plan.

  • I am not disqualified from eligibility for any of the reasons listed under “Disqualifications” below

  • I live in the UK, or it would take me the same time to get to London as someone who lives in the UK

  • I can invest at least 25 days a year to perform the role of a Trustee plus 6 days training in the first 6 months. I have thought carefully about the time commitment and balancing any other responsibilities I have with the Trustee role.

  • I agree to undertake training in connection with being a Trustee of the Fund as is decided by the Trustees, which includes complying with the trustee knowledge and understanding requirements as set out in The Pensions Act 2004.

  • I accept the confidentiality requirements placed on all Trustees of the Fund. You will be provided with these requirements in detail upon joining the Board.

  • I am available to attend a virtual 3-hour induction session on 4th February 2025 at 2pm-5pm or 11th February at 9am-12pm. You don’t have to attend an induction session if you already have a suitable Trustee qualification that’s less than 5 years old, however we would still recommend attending. Suitable qualifications include the Pensions Management Institute Trustee Certificate or completion of The Pensions Regulator’s Trustee Toolkit.

  • I agree to have a video call with an independent company Korn Ferry, between 13th February and 5th March 2025. This will be a conversation focussing on how you have demonstrated the Trustee Competencies, inside and outside of work.

  • I am available on the 8th and 9th of April to attend an interview with the selection panel.

Please note that if your role in Unilever means that you have access to confidential information that could put you in a conflicted position in a Trustee role, it would be unlikely that you could become a Trustee. If you have questions regarding this please contact pensions.uk@unilever.com

Disqualifications

It is possible that your personal circumstances may disqualify you from standing as a pension scheme trustee. The rules on this are set out in full in Section 29 of the Pensions Act 1995, but to make sure you are eligible to stand, all the following statements must be true:

  • I have not been convicted of any ‘offence involving dishonesty or deception’ where the conviction is not ‘spent’. (A conviction is ‘spent’ when the person has served the sentence and not re-offended during whatever rehabilitation period is set. You do not have to supply details of a ‘spent’ conviction.)
  • I am not under investigation for an offence involving dishonesty or deception
  • I am not an undischarged bankrupt, and there is no award of my estate to creditors pending.
  • There are no ongoing proceedings to declare me bankrupt or distribute my estate to creditors.
  • I am not disqualified from joining or managing a company under the Company Directors Disqualification Act 1986 – and no such proceedings are ongoing.
  • I am not subject to an order under the Insolvency Act 1986 after failing to make payments required by an administration order.
  • I am not currently taking part in a composition contract (or similar arrangement) with my creditors. (A ‘composition contract’ is an agreement with creditors to settle a debt immediately by only re-paying part of it.)
  • The Pensions Regulator has not taken any action to suspend or stop me from acting as a Trustee of the Fund (or any other pension scheme).
  • I am not subject to a moratorium period under a debt relief order, debt relief restrictions order, or an interim debt relief restrictions order
